The African American Planning Commission Inc․ (AAPCI), is a New York City-based 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization committed to reducing homelessness and addressing the related issues of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, substance abuse, shortage of affordable housing, and unemployment in the communities in which we live and serve․

Addressing Homelessness and Related Issues

The African American Planning Commission Inc․ (AAPCI) is a minority-controlled nonprofit organization that works to provide shelter to the homeless in New York City and helps unemployed city dwellers realize self-reliance and economic independence․ The organization develops transitional and affordable permanent housing that incorporates social support and employment services as part of its mission․ The African American Planning Commission was founded in 1996 by Matthew Okebiyi to address homelessness and the related issues of poverty, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, shortage of affordable housing, and unemployment in the New York City communities in which we live and work․ AAPCI has worked to address the shortage of low-income, affordable and supportive housing for all New Yorkers․ More than 30,000 residents have benefited from our high-quality housing, social services and support to survivors of domestic violence, and many more community members remain in need․
