The program is aimed at protecting the survival of the African lion and their cubs are taken into the bush daily to help familiarise them with their natural environment and to develop and practice their hunting skills.

The Lion Encounter Experience

Lion Encounter offers two unique activities⁚ The Feast of Beasts encounter and a chance to witness the life of a lion pride. The Feast of Beasts is a thrilling lion feeding experience where you can see the lions up close and personal. The second activity is an opportunity to be immersed into the life of a lion pride. This experience takes you on a scenic drive through a 25 acre enclosure strategically placed within the teak forest housing a pride of 5 lions. An exquisite male and 4 beautiful females. From the safety of a secure safari vehicle, enjoy guaranteed sightings of our pride, with incredible photo opportunities as they go about their daily lion lives.

The Feast of Beasts

Prepare to have a lion experience of a lifetime. While the lion walk activity was ceased at the end of 2020, the operator has come up with a new lion encounter activity that educates and excites! Its two activities in one, beginning with an adrenaline-pumping encounter called 'The Feast of Beasts'. What started as an enrichment exercise has now become an incredibly unique opportunity to see a side of lions not commonly seen, and from an eye level perspective. The first part of the activity is a thrilling lion feeding named, The Feast of Beasts encounter. Youre collected from your lodge and taken to Lion Encounter, adjacent the Zambezi National Park. Lion Encounter is partnered with ALERT, the African Lion and Environmental Research Trust, a conservation and community NGO that is devoted to the future of Africa's wildlife and people. On arrival, youll drive through the enclosure past some of the lions. There will be a safety briefing and an introduction on what Wildlife Encounter is all about, and the importance of lion and human peaceful cohabitation. You will be in a secure hide where you will be able to see the lions at eye level, and from a safe distance. Prepare yourself for a bit of an adrenaline rush. Fresh food will be placed in position, and then the large male lions are released. Watch the beasts charge and see how powerful these big cats are, as close as possible. As always, not only do these activities offer amazing experiences, but also contribute financially to the continued conservation and community development work.

Witnessing a Lion Pride

The second part of the activity is an opportunity to witness the life of a lion pride. This experience takes you on a scenic drive through a 25 acre enclosure strategically placed within the teak forest housing a pride of 5 lions. An exquisite male and 4 beautiful females. From the safety of a secure safari vehicle, enjoy guaranteed sightings of our pride, with incredible photo opportunities as they go about their daily lion lives. The various movements in favor of prohibiting physical encounters with wildlife are ascendant and Zimbabwe's lion education centers are not immune to the pressure (even before the Cecil controversy). At the Lion Encounter you will experience a walk with two of four young cats (less than 2 years old) who remain in the encounter program while the older cats are released into the wild. Antelope Park is ALERT's bigger lion walking project, located in the center of Zimbabwe. Lion Encounter is its younger sibling. During the excursion, the staff emphasized how much lions are encroached upon and how not enough is being accomplished through traditional breeding programs. In their attempt to stem this, they've set up a project that involves a lion encounter which helps fund the program, which is aimed at protecting the survival of the African lion. Lion Encounter Zimbabwe operates Stage 1 of the 4-stage Rehabilitation and Release Into The Wild Program. Our cubs are taken into the bush daily to help familiarise them with their natural environment and to develop and practice their hunting skills. The Walk With Lions helps fund the program, which is aimed at protecting the survival of the African lion. Guests are picked up from their respective hotel/lodge and transferred to the Masuwe estate. Upon arrival, tea, coffee and cordials are served ⏤ after which the guide will give a short introductory talk on the African Encounter Lion Rehabilitation Program and a brief on all safety aspects.
