Visa Requirements for US Citizens Traveling to Egypt

The Basics

US citizens need a visa to enter Egypt. However, there are a few options for obtaining one. You can apply for an Egyptian e-visa online, apply in person at the Egyptian embassy in Washington, DC, or obtain a visa on arrival when you land in Egypt. US citizens can obtain a renewable single-entry 30-day tourist visa on arrival at Egyptian airports for a 25 USD fee.

Visa on Arrival

US citizens can obtain a visa on arrival at any of the major airports in Egypt. The visa on arrival is a single-entry tourist visa valid for 30 days and costs USD 25. You can pay the fee in cash using USD, EUR, or GBP. The visa on arrival is available for citizens of many countries, but US citizens are eligible to apply for it.

E-Visa

US citizens can apply for an e-Visa online. The e-Visa is an electronic visa that allows you to enter Egypt for a specific period. It is typically valid for 30 days and can be used for tourism or business purposes. The e-Visa application process is completely online and requires you to fill out an application form and pay a fee using a credit or debit card. You will receive your e-Visa electronically after your application has been approved.

Visa Requirements

To apply for an Egyptian visa, US citizens will need a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining. They will also need to provide a recent passport-sized photograph, a completed visa application form, and proof of onward travel. Depending on the type of visa you are applying for, you may also need to provide additional documentation, such as a letter of invitation from a sponsor in Egypt or proof of financial resources.

Transit Visa

US citizens may need a transit visa if they are transiting through Egypt for more than 48 hours. You can apply for a transit visa at an Egyptian embassy or consulate. The application process is similar to that of a tourist visa, and you will need to provide the same documentation. If you are only in transit for less than 48 hours, you are allowed to stopover visa-free.
